Reggie remains at the equine hospital two hours away from home and this is the update I received this morning, day nine post op and day 10 of this third hospital stay, and day 29 overall. He comes home this weekend!

This is the morning update from his vet team. I am so thankful for this good news & progress!

Good morning! Reggie did well overnight! He did not have any fevers and is looking bright!

He has been lunging well, better than most horses in all honesty.

He did not have any fevers yesterday either, we also think his neck is starting to look less inflamed, I’m hoping he’s on the right track! [He last had banamine at 6 PM yesterday.]

He is the smartest and sweetest donkey I’ve ever met, it’ll be very bittersweet when he leaves but I’m glad he’ll be back home with you!

Reggie - day 7 post op and day 8 of this hospital stay. 27 total days in hospital since first week of September. I got a good update this morning…

Good morning!

No fevers overnight for Reggie!! And he’s been loving his coastal, he seems much happier.

The surgeon is back in the office again today as well and will take a peak at him at some point, one of us will give you a call later on today.

25 total hospital days so far. 😢 Staff and care are terrific, but we want him home.

Had fever this am so got another dose of banamine. He had been cut down to once a day. Back to twice. He has a lot of neck inflammation but the flushes look good. Goal is Monday to come home or ideally 24 hours fever free off meds.

He’s much perkier today and we enjoyed a walk by his admirers, the mares. 💕

I watched staff flush his neck with a cannula. Hoping we get a good idea what antibiotics will be best asap. He let me pick his hooves and was his usual sweet self. #hobbyfarm #minidonkey #donkey #surgery

Reggie Post Op Update:

Just spoke with Dr. Adams and will walk up to see Reggie in a minute. He is up.

Scrotum - Doctor is confident he got all of the infected tissue with the spermatic cords. Cut out several inches. They were thick, the right worse. Thick as man’s thumb, should have been pinky size.

Neck - Dr opened the new pimple spot that appeared yesterday morning and the original spot just a little. The new spot connects to the deeper abscess. It has to be flushed with a thin cannula deep. There is a lot of infection. Much was thick. He removed what he could and it will be flushed a lot. Culturing to hopefully find an antibiotic that will work. It is extremely close to his carotid artery and important nerves which is not good. The best case is it drains and we find a med that will work. He will have a hard side of the neck always. Worst case is surgical resection which is last ditch effort as it’s a serious surgery and no guarantees. @emcocala
